| Raman Singh to take oath as Chhatisgarh CM on Friday | | | AGENCIES RAIPUR, DEC 9: After leading BJP back to power in Chhattisgarh with an emphatic victory in assembly polls, Raman Singh will take oath as Chief Minister here on Friday and later expand his ministry. Asked why the Chief Minister alone will be sworn in, BJP sources said this is in accordance with a decision by the party's parliamentary board recently. Singh's swearing in will take place at the police parade ground here on the morning of December 12. In neighbouring Madhya Pradesh too, Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be sworn in as the chief minister on Friday afternoon but no other ministers will take oath, they said. Ahead of swearing in, Singh today held intensive consultations with senior party leaders and BJP general secretary Ravi Shanker Prasad on the composition of his ministry. Singh, 56, is all set to be elected as the leader of BJP legislature party here tomorrow paving the way for his heading the government for the second successive term. The meeting of BJP's newly-elected MLAs will be held at the party headquarters where Prasad, who was in-charge of the elections in the state, and secretary Dharmendra Pradhan, in-charge of party affairs in Chhattisgarh, will be present as observers of the party central leadership. Raman Singh is expected to induct at least half a dozen new faces in the ministry in view of the defeat of four of his ministerial colleagues in the previous government and the party's splendid performance in the naxal-infested tribal belt of Bastar division, Sarguja, Koria and Jaspur. |
