| Uma unfazed by defeat | | | AGENCIES BHOPAL, DEC 9: The Bharatiya Janashakti (BJS) party president, Uma Bharti asserted here today that she was unfazed by her defeat from the Tikamgarh constituency in the recent Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls. Addressing a press conference at her residence, Bharti said that in a democracy losing an election was no big deal as even in our country many big leaders had lost the elections. She said that the big Indian leaders who had lost elections included former prime ministers-Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Bharti said that although Vajpayee had lost the 1984 Lok Sabha election he went on to become the nation's prime minister. She said that in Tikamgarh, the Congress nominee was being backed by the BJP as the party desperately wanted to defeat her. The BJS leader said that a reign of terror had been unleashed in the Tikamgarh district on polling day on November 27 and this had led to the killing of one BJP candidate and the defeat of the BJP nominee from Tikamgarh who even lost his security deposit. Bharti charged the Tikamgarh Collector with ignoring complaints about irregularities in polling and doing nothing about them. |
