| PM visiting on Dec 14 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 9: Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, who was scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir today, is now likely to arrive in the state for election campaign on December 14. Jammu and Kashmir pradesh Congress committee chief and Union water resources minister Saifuddin Soz said in Jammu on Tuesday that the PM would address rallies in Srinagar and Jammu. Singh would speak on the Congress' development works, policies and secularism and the reasons why people voted the party to power in Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram, Soz told media-persons in Jammu. Soz said that Jammu and Kahsmir would be the next state where Congress will stage a comeback as people have seen massive development works conducted by the Congress-led coalition government. "Voters are now intelligent and will not be mislead by religion and religious slogans. They would vote on development card and local issues," he said. Congress spokesman said that the Prime Minister was likely to address a couple of rallies in south Kashmir and in Jammu-Kathua belt. Sharma said that the Congress leadership in the state was trying to invite the AICC Chief, Sonia Gandhi to Jammu. He said the visit of the Prime Minister and the AICC chairperson could prove helpful in wooing the voters to the side of the Congress. He explained that the Congress stakes were quite high in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Anantnag and Kulgam districts. Sharma claimed that the mood in the pro-Congress camp was upbeat because of the party’s better performance in Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram. He said that the election results in these three states, where congress was voted to power, will definitely help the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir to better its 2002 performance when it had won 20 seats and later six more independent candidates had joined the Congress. |
