GLDM organizes online lecture on Manthan

JAMMU, July 23: Department of Music Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organised 7th online lecture under the series named "Manthan". Manthan is an online lecture series from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari organised under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav @75. The lecture was on the topic Traditional Theatre of Central Himalaya. The Chief Guest of the programme was Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna Principal of the College. She highly appreciated the idea of the series of lectures pertaining to music every week.
The resource person for the lecture Dr. Data Ram Purohit hailed from Uttrakhand is a well known scholar, folklorist and theatre personality. He is former Professor of English, former Director of Centre for Folk Performing Arts and Culture. He was a visiting Professor of Heidelberg University Germany in 2009, a Waden Wurteimburg Fellow in SAI Heidelberg, Germany from 2018-19 and a national fellow IIAS Shimla from 2019-2021.
He in his lecture described in detail the folk art and theatre of different regions of Uttrakhand. He also elaborated theatre art of Shimla, Jammu and Chandigarh and said that the traditional theatre system has a great influence on the development of personality of those related with this art. He said that different communities have played a pivotal role in the rise and progress of folk-theatre of Himalayas.
The welcome address was presented by Dr. Bharat Bhushan Head, Department of Music. He further reiterated the project of compilation of all the proceedings and articles from all the lectures into a book form. The work and initiative would be a contribution to the knowledge and literature in the field of music which would further strengthen the institution at large. The project is encouraged and inspired by the worthy Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna.
The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views about the series. Those who attended the lecture were Prof. Renu Sehgal from GCW Gandhi Nagar College, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra, Dr. Shallu Jasrotia, Prof. Yash Kumar from GCW Udhampur College, Prof. Lawanaya Kirti Singh from Bihar, Sh. Sanjay Prakash Bhardwaj and Sh. Vijay Singh from Sangeet Natak Acadamy New Delhi, Dr. Nishtha Sharma and Prof. Asha Rani, Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Dr. Surinder Kumar, from Sikkim Central University, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Bhawana Jamwal, Dr. Jyoti Rani, Prof. Neeru Ananad, Dr. Usha Rani, Dr. Arun Kumar, and Mr. Vikram Jamwal. At the end of the lecture Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Music of the college presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme was organised together with Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports in consultation and support of Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college.
