| KPs seek intervention of civil society | | | AGENCIES New Delhi, Dec 10: On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day to commemorate the adoption and proclamation of the 'Universal Declaration of Human Rights'; Kashmiri Hindu Pandits demand intervention of the civil society for the restoration of their human rights. 'Roots in Kashmir' a global initiative of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits, in its headquarters in New Delhi, has questioned the relative silence of Government of India on their plight as they have been left to fend for themselves in exile for the last 19 years. "It is a grim reminder of the continued apathy towards the plight of the displaced community as the Kashmiri Hindu Pandits enter the nineteenth year of their exile. It was during 1989-90 that the miniscule minority of Hindu Pandits was targeted in a most brutal manner and forced to flee their homes and hearths by the Pakistan sponsored indoctrinated and armed Kashmiri pan Islamists" said. Aditya Raj Kaul, founder of the group. Today as the displaced Kashmiri Hindu Pandits deprived of their homeland continue to live as 'refugees in their own country', the ethnic minority of aboriginal Kashmiris stands on the verge of extinction. What began with their ethnic cleansing in Kashmir valley almost two decades ago, the Kashmiri Hindu Pandits believe that the recent 26-29/11 Mumbai carnage is the manifestation of the continued onslaught by the pan Islamists against secular India. "United Nations recently had mentioned Kashmiri Hindu Pandits as Internally Displaced Persons (IDP's); but unfortunately it has only gone to deaf ears here in our own India. The international recognition of our issues is the result of the struggle launched by the Pandit group during the last 19 years of exile. Roots in Kashmir holds that terror has become a pan-India phenomenon now with global linkages and the group endeavors to bring to light the real culprits and murderers of innocent Kashmiris" said R. Thusoo, Chief Coordinator of 'Roots in Kashmir'. |
