| Party leaders seek votes on its two year’s achievements | | ‘Congress wave sweeping across J&K’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 10: Following land slide victory in three states and improving its position in Madhya Pradesh and Chatisgarh, the Congress party is in upbeat mood in Jammu and Kashmir is poised the win with a big margin, said veteran congress leader an former MP Janak Raj Gupta while addressing largely attended election rallies held at Tappper, Thanda, Badnote in Bani constituency in support of the party candidate and former minister Prem Sagar Aziz and Madheen and other places in Hiranagar constituency wherefrom Girdhari Lal Chalotra is seeking re-election. Hitting hard at the opponents for creating communal divide, Gupta declared that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and would continue to remain so. He said the machinations of the vested interests to divide state on communal and regional lines would never succeed and asserted that the Congress party which is committed for the unity and integrity of the state would emerge victorious in the ongoing elections. He said that people are well aware about the role and sacrifices given by the party leaders in defending the territorial integrity of the state and lamented those advocating for trifurcation or creation of separate Jammu state. Describing the impressive victory of the party in three states and raising its tally in MP, Gupta said credit for it goes to the good governance of the Congress and party’s commitment for development, peace and prosperity. It shows the people have liked the programmes and policies of the Congress and exhibited confidence in the leadership of AICC President Sonia Gandhi and PM Dr. Manmohan Singh. He expressed the hope that the voters would definitely come out in larger numbers as they have exhibited in the first four phases and vote en-mass for congress for speedy development and bringing lasting peace in the state. Former minister and sitting MLC R S Chib who addressed the gathering reminded the people about the policies and programmes of the congress party as also dwelt at length about the achievements registered in the state in different sectors during the party’s two and a half years rule under the inspiring leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad. He said that it is only congress party that can take care of the peoples’ problems and deliver on the ground. He urged the people to strengthen the congress party by voting it back to power for ensuring sustainable development in the state. Former minister and congress leader B R Kundal who also addressed the gathering said Bani which is known for its scenic splendor would receive added attention of the government if voted to power for developing it as a major tourist destination and bringing it on the country’s tourist map. He said though a lot in this direction has been done during the last two years but there remains much more to be done to develop the area for both tourists and the pilgrims. He said so far roads and opening up of a degree college at Hiranagar is considered the congress government would take up these issues on priority adding that the party would not compromise with the problems confronting the people. Accusing BJP for playing with the sentiments of the people and bringing out well settled issue of Shrine Board land row, Prof. Hari Om said that after having failed to muster public support, the BJP has started whipping up old issues. He said the party is a divided lot and directionless as a result of which one leader speaks on thing and the other some thing contrary to that. Prem Sagar Aziz party candidate from Bani and Girdhari Lal Chlalotra candidate from Hiranagar also spoke the gatherings and appealed the voters to make them victorious with large margins. |
