| Infrastructure my top priority: Azad | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 10: Development of infrastructure and providing of basic amenities particularly in remote rural areas has always been my priority said ex. Chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad while addressing election rallies at Bani, Kanthi, Bulandpur in Ramban, Gajoth Bala and Taroon in Bhaderwah today. Azad said that his priority has always been the development of road communication, hospitals, schools power and water besides improving the lot of people. He reiterated that the development of infrastructure particularly the roads in prerequisite to the promotion of tourism and the upliftment of economy of a place. He said that the road network not only makes the lives of the people of a remote place more convenient but also helps the farmers and orchadists to market their produce to the nearest mandies cheaply, in time and conveniently to earn more and raise their economy. He said under Asian Development Bank funding a loan of Rs. 1611 cr for the construction of bridges, roads, drainage and water supply was raised during 2006-08 and road projects for many a road projects across the state are under execution. Work on 25 major bridges was taken up during 2006-08 at a cost of Rs. 212 cr under various schemes. He said that besides this about Rs. 300 cr was invested by the state in the construction of roads. He reminded public of Bani that creation of Tourism Authority at Bani, creation of Lakhanpur-Basholi-Bani-Sarthal Circuit, development of a tourist reception centre at Basholi, tourist complex at Sarthal and Making of a new garden by Floriculture Department at Bani has been some of his major steps for Bani area. He said that a special scheme for financial grant for the education of girl child below the poverty line, beyond matriculation will be launched. The government will also consider the launch of a special scheme for welfare of female child belonging to BPL families by providing a fixed deposit at the time of birth. Besides this he said that as promised in the party manifesto a corpus fund Rs. 20 cr will be created for the marriage of poor girls. He said that he will continue to strive his best to see tourism is soaring to newer heights. |
