Providing Equal Rights
8/3/2022 11:39:27 PM

Abrogation of Article 370 has provided equal rights to the marginalized communities like tribals, Valmikis and others in Jammu and Kashmir.
Members of these communities were just given lollipops for the past 70-years but Prime Minister, Narendra Modi led regime ended discrimination with them by bringing them at par with others.
Decisive steps were taken after August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided it into two Union Territories—to empower the members of the weaker sections of the society. Due to Articles 370 and 35-A in vogue in J&K till 2019, members of Valmiki community, West Pakistan Refugees and others were deprived of even the basic rights. But PM Modi led regime “bit the bullet” and ended the seven decade long status-quo to provide equal rights to every community in J&K. They are no longer barred from exercising their franchise in assembly and other elections, nor are they being denied any benefits for not being the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir as the permanent resident law ahs been done away with.
Heirs of daughters of J&K, who couldn’t own the properties of their mothers till 2019 have become equal stakeholders. The daughters of Jammu and Kashmir have been empowered to transfer their property to their children or even sell it off.
Valmikis were not eligible to get admission in the educational institutes for higher studies in J&K but after getting a domicile certificate they can now take admission in any government institute.
Till August 5, 2019 Valmikis, living in different areas of J&K were denied admission in government institutions and were also debarred from getting government jobs. But the new Domicile law has made them eligible and they are striving to make their lives better.
Abrogation of Article 370 also ended the seven-decade-long discrimination faced by the tribal communities including Gujjar-Bakerwal and Gaddi-Sippi and paved way for them to get equal rights.
The members of the Gujjar-Bakerwal and Gaddi-Sippi communities, who were exploited to the hilt earlier, stand completely empowered just three years after the revocation of the so-called special status of J&K. Many steps have been taken by the government to protect the interests of tribal people, including their land, education and upliftment of their socio-economic status.
The PM Modi led government has ensured that no community in J&K remains deprived of its rights and the promises that were made to people are fulfilled.
