Rattan Lal asks LG led Admin to stop exploiting daily wagers

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 3: Provincial President, National Conference, Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta today strongly condemned brutal lathi-charge on peacefully agitating daily-wagers of Jal Shakti Department, terming it as inhumane.
In a statement issued here today, NC’s Provincial President said that peaceful protest to draw the attention of government for resolution of problems is democratic. “It is highly unfortunate that despite commitments made with this workforce by the successive regime of Bharatiya Janata Party in the erstwhile state, the present dispensation has also miserably failed to address their genuine demands particularly their regularization,” he observed.
Expressing concern over non-serious approach adopted by the J&K Government to fulfill long pending demands of casual and daily wagers, Gupta stressed for execution of the promises made with them on the floor of the House in letter and spirit. He said that unfortunately the use of brutal force against peaceful protesters has become a precedent in the State.
This tactic needs to be changed in the better interests of Government as well as the people, he added.
Taking a strong exception to the Government’s lackadaisical approach towards pending wages of casual labourers/daily wagers, Gupta observed that it seems the present Government like the previous dispensation believes in making deceptive commitments to buy time and avoid the crisis.
“Government always neglected them by giving them a deaf ear to their demands. Some of these daily wagers are serving the government for the last 25 years but the government has always ignored them with regard to their regularization. Neither, they get regular wages on every month nor the government get them regularize. In this era of inflation, it is impossible for them to arrange two-time meals for their families in absence of regular wages,” he added.
The senior NC leader asked the LG led administration to stop exploiting these daily wagers who even after rendering decades of their unflinching services in different government departments across Jammu and Kashmir are facing tremendous problems in getting their honorarium.
The administration should take all possible steps in resolving their issues including regularization and regular wages under the Minimum Wages Act so that they would get a sigh of relief in this highly inflation era.
