| Vohra reviews situation in Ramban | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAMBAN, DEC 11: Consequent to the successful completion of the ongoing elections in four of the seven phases in Jammu and Kashmir, the poll preparedness for the remaining three phases in the State is in full swing. Governor, Mr N N Vohra, today reviewed the law and order situation in the two Assembly constituencies of the newly carved out district of Ramban here this morning and stressed the need for ensuring a secure and stable environment for the peaceful conduct of the polls. In his meeting with the top officials of the District Administration, Police, Central Police Forces and the Army, the Governor reiterated the importance of close and effective coordination between all concerned agencies and called for further beefing up the security grid and making all necessary arrangements for the ongoing electoral process being carried out in an environment of safety and security. Vohra emphasized the need for ensuring adequate logistical arrangements, particularly those relating to accommodation, transport, communication, food supplies, medical and other services for the smooth conduct of the polls. Giving his assessment of the overall security situation, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr A G Shahnaz, informed the Governor that the District Administration, Police and the other Security Forces were working in close coordination to ensure peaceful atmosphere all over the district. The hilly district of Ramban comprises two Assembly segments of Banihal and Ramban. In view of its difficult terrain, fool-proof arrangements have been made to dispatch the poll parties and the polling material to the far-off areas well in time. The two constituencies have 37 contestants in the fray, 24 of them in the Banihal constituency. Shahnaz said that 202 polling stations would be established in the district for an electorate of 1, 46,199. The polling for the two constituencies would be held in the 6th phase on 17th of December. |
