| Davar ridicules Jaitly’s statement on Congress | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 11: The BJP does not appear to have learnt a lesson from the humiliating defeat it suffered in Delhi and Rajasthan elections, where its attempts to politicize terror and divide the electorate on communal has failed miserably, AICC secretary Capt Praveen Davar has said that the saffron party is again trying the same divisive politics in Jammu and Kashmir to divide the people on religious and regional lines. Describing BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley’s statement here yesterday as ‘most ridiculous and misleading’, Davar said that the statement coming from a senior leader of BJP which itself is a tail of RSS that dictates the political, social and economic policies of the BJP is misleading. ‘So strong is the hold of RSS on BJP that it didn’t allow the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to sack Narendra Modi after the 2002 Gujarat genocide and ensured the failure of Vajpayee-Musharaf summit after the Kargil war’, Davar observed. The BJP General Secretary had not the courage to clarify why his party has dropped the demand for abrogation of Article 370 in its poll manifesto, Davar said adding that obviously the BJP is dreaming that with a few seats it may win, it will have the chance of becoming a “tail” of a ‘Kashmir centric’ party. Arun Jaitley, the AICC Secretary said, is also distorting historical facts by claiming that Article 370 was a ‘Nehruvian blunder’ and that Pt. Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah have been proved wrong. Reminding the BJP spokesman, Davar said that but for Pt. Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir may never have been part of India and despite his differences with Nehru, Sheikh many a times stressed the fact that the people of Jammu and Kashmir chose to be part of Nehru’s secular India where their identity will remain secure and rejected the theocratic Jinnah, who is still held in high esteem by Jaitley’s mentor and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani. Dropping Article 370 from its poll manifesto proves that BJP has realized that it lacks the moral courage to admit that late Shyama Prasad Mukerjee and Prem Nath Dogra erred in their judgment, the Davar claimed in his statement adding that Article 370 safeguards the rights and privileges of people of all the three regions of the state to which congress and all secular parties are committed. ‘We appeal to the people of the state and particularly the wise voters of Jammu region, not to be misled by the communal, divisive and mischievous propaganda of the BJP and give the saffron outfit a befitting reply as have the people of Rajasthan and Delhi’, he said. |
