| Govt files status report on forest land grabbing | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec11: As per the direction of the J&K High Court, the state and others filed status report regarding the encroachment of forest land in or around Jammu city. According to the status report filed through Additional Advocate General, AH Qazi in which it has been submitted that more than 145 persons are occupying the forest land in Jammu District. In the absence of settlement and proper demarcation, it becomes difficult to settle the title of land in question and subsequent eviction of occupants from the land which were shown as demarcated forest in the forest record. The occupants of the land continued to be in the possession of land and got support from the entries made in revenue records. Many cases were registered with the police for assisting the forest department in getting land vacated but due to absence of proper records and multiplier entries in revenue record, the process of eviction could not be finalized and taken to its logical conclusion in many cases. The issue of eviction of unauthorized occupation on forest land has been on the top priority of the department and many initiatives have been taken in this regard. Since the issue involves active cooperation from revenue department and other agencies such as JDA, the Chief Secretary of J&K during 2007 convened a high level meeting to address the issues. The department is also actively perusing the matter of entry of Girdawries in the Revenue Record by the revenue authorities at various level so that that the title of land in such areas become clear and unambiguous. Simultaneously the dept is making all possible efforts to show that no encroachment is allowed on the forest land and no construction is raised in the forest areas. This status report has been filed in the State High Court in a petition filed by Mohammed Sadeeq and others Vs Sajjad Kichloo, Tanveer Ahmed Kichloo, Naseer Ahmed Kichloo resident of EP House behind the office of J&K SAC Mohalla Dalpaltian Jammu, Lal Mohammed and Saif Ali resident of Sunjwan in which the petitioners submitted that the forest land around Jammu city are being broken with impunity and on the same buildings are being raised by influential and moneyed persons with the help of land grabbers and land dealers mafia in connivance and with the help of such officers who turned a Nelson eye, to the breaking of the forest land and to large scale of cutting and removal of forest trees. |
