12/11/2008 11:28:45 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 11: Stressing the need for strengthening secular fabric of the state, the congress party today made it clear that the party is committed to defeat the forces engaged in dividing the state on communal lines adding that it would never let the communal intents of BJP, PDP and NC to succeed.
Addressing largely attended election rallies held at Dharamkot, Mela, Ramkot and Badagawali in Billawar today, organized to muster support for the congress candidate. Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, seeking re-election from Billawar constituency of Kathua district, the veteran congress leader and former MP, Janak Raj Gupta said that all these parties are hell bent to divide the state on communal lines for their vested interests. While BJP was making every effort to raise the emotions of the people in Jammu province, NC and PDP were playing similar tricks to mislead the people in other parts of the state.
BJP, NC and the PDP are in no way interested in the development and progress of the state which can well be assessed by the fact that all the three political parties misled the people on regional and religious grounds. ‘The present plight of the state was the creation of NC, while BJP failed to do any thing for the people of Jammu even being in office at the centre for more than six years’, Gupta maintained.
R S Chib, former minister and sitting MLC, who also spoke on the occasion, reminded the people about the achievements of the Azad led congress government in the state and said that would could not be achieved in 60 years, the Azad led government did it in just less than three years tenure and gave details of the projects taken up and completed in a record period.
The former minister B R Kundal while addressing the gathering said that the Congress is a force to reckon with and any individual or party undermining its strengthen is living a fool’s paradise.
