DEC finalises proposals for conservation, preservation of Ecology, Environment

RAMBAN, Aug 18: District Magistrate, Ramban, Mussarat Islam, today convened a meeting of the District Environment Committee to finalize the proposals for conservation and preservation of Ecology & Environment in the areas affected due to earth cutting for the National Highway 4- Laning project in the jurisdiction of Forest Division Ramban and Batote.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Sharma; ACD, Ashok Katoch; Divisional Officer, Pollution Control, Sanjay Rathore, DFO, Ramban Dr. Rajan Singh; DFO, Batote, Kuldeep Singh; DMO, Kulwant Singh and other senior officers attended the meeting. During the meeting, the DFO Ramban and DFO Batote placed the proposals for their respective Divisions before the District Environment Committee (DEC) with a total financial implication of 1 crore each for the twin divisions.
After a threadbare discussion on all the works proposed in the plan, the DEC approved the proposals for further submission to the J&K Pollution Control Committee for its placement before its ensuing Board meeting for approval and appropriate funding. During the meeting, the DM who is also the chairperson of the DEC, discussed various other issues posing threat to Ecology & Environment due to the ongoing construction works on major projects across the district and suggested a wide ranging corrective measures for its protection.
