Mayor, others conduct plantation drive in lower Shiv Nagar

JAMMU, Aug 18: During the ongoing monsoon season, Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu today conducted a plantation drive in the areas which was started from AG Office towards Govt. Women Polytechnic Collage Shiv Nagar Jammu of ward no. 33. Sunil Singh Divisional Forest Officer Jammu, Madam Rabia Khan Assistant Floriculture Officer, field staff of Horticulture Section as well as Health Section of JMC and Neseeb Raj, Booth President, Mohit Vaid, Krishan Verma, Ved Pal Sharma, Shamsher Singh, Karan Sharma and other prominent inhabitants of Rajpura, Shiv Nagar, Shakti Nagar & its adjoining localities were present there during the plantation drive.
Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation appeals to all the citizens of Jammu City to come forward & actively participate in the plantation drive to make it a great success. He further said that the plants are the lifeline of people as they offer desired resistance to pollution which has crossed the admissible limits especially in urban areas. Besides this, these act as oxygen (fresh air) thus rejuvenating our cities by providing much needed respite from Global warming, rain deficit and poor air quality.
While stressing on protecting nature, he further appealed to the general public to plant at least five trees in their surrounding areas where sufficient space is available and caring them properly to make the environment Green & pollution free. Claming that trees are also the natural habitat of birds & several other creatures like honey bees etc, he said that it is the necessity of present time to have plenty of trees in the vicinity to sustain life.
