| BJP hoodwinking Jammuites on Shrine land agitation: BJP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 12- Criticizing BJP for taking credit of the successful culmination of 62 day long agitation over Shri Amarnath Shrine Board land row, Jammu State Morcha (P) President Prof. Virender Gupta, Capt. Anil Gour, Vice President and Swarn Sharma, President Women’s Wing, at a joint press conference here today, said that it was a people’s movement in which BJP was only a small constituent amongst the 32 other organizations which came under the banner of Shri Amaranth Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS). They also charged the BJP for sabotaging the unity of the people of Jammu by not agreeing to any seat sharing for the elections. BJP is only trying to exploit the memory of the martyrs’ by giving tickets to the widow of Kuldeep Verma and has shattered the unity of Jammu people that was shown during the agitation spearheaded by the SAYSS, the JSM leaders said. In the last over 30 years, BJP has not raised its voice for the Jammu region once and instead its MLA’s took active part in the passing of the Delimitation Bill and ensuring freezing of seats in the J&K assembly, the Morcha leaders alleged. They further said that BJP has always remained Kashmir centric and has never been able to fight against the discriminations being meted out to Jammuities. The fact of the matter is that BJP does not represent whole of Jammu region, the influence of the party mostly remains confined to the towns. On the crucial moments the party has deceived the people of Jammu, whether it was Praja Parshid Movement of 1953, student movement of 1967, Poonch agitation of 1979 or Reasi agitation for the district status, he JSM leaders observed and claimed that during the NDA rule also it never allowed the state Unit to go against the anti Jammu policies of National Conference or raise any other issue of Jammu. They also criticized BJP’s projection of it being the only nationalistic party and said that there are other parties that in fact are more nationalistic. The leaders also accused the Congress party for ignoring the Jammu region. Today Congress is harping on the development issue but the fact is that total expenditure on development under various heads in Jammu region remained confined to 30% of the total allocations and the focus was primarily on Kashmir and appealed the electorate to vote and support the Morcha nominees which is the only party that can safeguard the rights of the people.
