Covid loses sting but threat looms
8/22/2022 11:01:43 PM

During the past few days there has been a decline in the COVID-19 cases across Jammu and Kashmir. Experts are of the opinion that fourth wave of the pandemic is at its fag end and numbers are not that important as the hospitalization rate is not that high.
Even though effective vaccines are available, it is also clear that the gravity may not be the same as was at the beginning of the pandemic. The underlining here is, of course, that there isn’t exactly a choice but to control the virus from spreading given the trends in some countries, particularly Europe.
The ‘Variants of Concern’ flagged by the experts include BA.2.75, BA.2.38., BA.5.2, BA.2.76, BA.2, BA.2.78, BA.5.2.1, BA.4 and BA.2.74. These variants are causing infections but these are not that severe.
Experts are urging people to get vaccinated as the COVID-19 jabs have proven to be very effective in fight against the pandemic. They are insisting that people should wear masks as the Covid is still in the air and it has not gone anywhere.
People have to follow basic SOPs to keep the Covid at bay.
They need to take all the measures to prevent the virus from spreading and remain embedded in the social distancing, hand washing etiquettes and wearing masks.
Of late, the government has given up hefty penalties used earlier to make people wear face masks. Nevertheless, there is a need to wear masks and that too religiously.
After the pandemic broke out people of Jammu led from the front and followed the Covid SOPs religiously. They set an example by sacrificing many things. As the figures stand now, the number of new COVID-19 infections have started declining but that doesn’t mean that we can become complacent. We have to defeat the virus and show it the exit door.
The Covid-19 booster doses are being provided to the people free of cost and the experts are of the opinion that the Covid-19 jabs will become a routine exercise that would need to be undertaken every year. India has succeeded in defeating the virus but still a lot more needs to be done to ensure complete victory over the deadly virus that hit normal life hard.
