KVK, Reasi promotes Commercial Floriculture among Rural Youths

JAMMU, Aug 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu is promoting the commercial floriculture among rural youths of hilly areas under ARYA (Attracting and Retaining Youths in Agriculture) project and many rural youths are showing keen interest towards this crop as an enterprise. Marigold has been found as a viable crop in monkeys affected areas of Reasi distt. and can create some more income and employment avenues. According to Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi, ARYA project is an opportunity for the rural youths to showcase their creativity through farming and youths of the district can drive the agriculture to modern technology driven agriculture which can enhance, improve and uplift the economy of the district. He said that floriculture has immense potential in Reasi distt. of J&K as the distt. is the hub of religious spots and visited by the millions of devotees every year. He said that KVK, Reasi is imparting skills on scientific floriculture to the rural youths so that they can increase their floral crops production and quality and generate more income. He said that KVK provide the quality seed and guide the rural youths on timely disease and insect-pests management in floral crops. He expressed that KVK is also stressing on floriculture under protected conditions so as produce the quality product. He also said that KVK is also guiding rural youths on the marketing strategies for floral crops. He narrated that the rural youths can generate more income and employment by adopting the improved technologies in floriculture. By observing the successful results of many floriculturists in the area, many new rural youths are coming forward towards commercial floriculture.
