| Workshop on child protection held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec12-Centre for Adult Continuing Education and Extension, University of Jammu, held a workshop on national initiative for child protection here today to sensitize the participants about the needs of the children in distress and the role of CHILDLINE. A group of 32 field functionaries from ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) project and NGO's working for the cause of children participated in the workshop. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Director, CHILDLINE Nodal Organization, threw light on the issues relating to child labor and child trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir while Priyanka Sharma, Nodal Officer CHILDLINE spoke about the special needs of institutionalized children in particular and children in distress in general..
The legal experts, Dr Savita Nayyar and Dr. Monica Narang from the faculty of Law, University of Jammu talked about the legal provisions for child protection and Juvenile Justice Act. The needs of the children in difficult circumstances and conflict in the state were discussed by Dr. Kavita Suri , Asasistant Director, Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension (CACE&E),University of Jammu where as child labour issues, its impact and minimizing its negative impacts were discussed by the sociologist, Vishwaraksha, Assistant Professor, department of Sociology, University of Jammu.
O.P. Gupta center coordinator CHILDLINE briefed about the networking of the child line with the allied systems.
