Jammu, Dec 12: As political activity reaches its zenith with both parts of state witnessing heightened electioneering authorities fear a unique threat –militants taking guise of video and photojournalists to sabotage polls. Amidst intelligence inputs that militants might masquerade as camermen and use weapon disguised as camera, security was beefed up for all 113 candidates, including PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, in 6 assembly seats in Pulwama and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir which go to poll tomorrow. "We have inputs that militants might sneak into polling areas tomorrow in the guise of photo journalists and use weapons disguised as cameras to target candidates," highly placed official sources said here today. Besides Mehbooba, among other prominent candidates in fray for tomorrow's polling are former ministers Ghulam Hassan Khan, Syed Bashir Ahmad and Khalil Mohammad Bandh. The sources said all photojournalists going to cover tomorrow's elections will be thoroughly frisked before allowing entry in the jurisdiction of poll-bound areas. "There is a possibility of random checks on the scribes during the course of the day to prevent the militants from carrying out their nefarious designs," they added. The sources said security has been beefed up for all the 113 contesting candidates from these two districts while nearly 200 companies of security forces have been deployed in the poll-bound areas of the state for tomorrow. Six constituencies in Shopian and Pulwama districts, along with five constituencies in Kathua district of Jammu region, are going to polls tomorrow. Inspector General of BSF Baljit Singh said that Tral in Pulwama district and Wacchi and Shopian segments in Shopian district were infested with militants and the possibility of attacks cannot be ruled out.
