12/13/2008 12:31:55 PM
Early Times Report
Doda, Dec 12: Looking at the flow of mighty Chenab and promising people the rays of most sought afrer light (electricity) these winters , the National Conference President Omar Abdullah today said that his party’s policy of tapping water resources was abandoned by the coalition government to utter disadvantage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Saying that his party is committed to optimum utilization of water resources Omar argued, “had the coalition carried forward National Conference policy on power, the state would have been electricity surplus by now”. He was addressing series of public meetings and road shows in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts.
He said if voted to power the party will make a comprehensive plan to tap the hydro power resources of the entire state. This he said will not only improve the economy of the state but also create sufficient jobs for the unemployed youth of the state.
Omar said the indecisiveness and wrong polices of the erstwhile PDP Congress government has resulted in the delay of not only the Bhaglihar Hydro Electric Power Project but also other power projects which were in the pipe line. He said it is sad that even the micro hydro projects which were to be initiated in the BOOT or BOT mode were also delayed.
Omar said if voted to power the government will lay special emphasis on job oriented vocational training so that the youth of the state can be gainfully employed. He said for this the training institutes will be technologically upgraded and better equipped in terms of hardware and software to roll out well trained personnel who could earn a dignified living for themselves.
Taking a dig at the erstwhile PDP - Congress government Omar said while lacs of young people in the state are unemployed the government did not filled nearly 70000 vacancies lying vacant since the last over one year. He said they had a nefarious political design to fill these vacancies through backdoor, close to the elections and deprive the deserving of their right. He said National Conference if voted to power will immediately start the process of filling these vacancies.
The National Conference President said that his party is committed to ensure adequate supply of good quality ration across the state and in addition to that the party will open fair price shops in each village where the essential commodities will be available at subsidized rates in which the prices will be 25-30% lower than the market rates.
Omar promised that National Conference government after coming to power we will focus on addressing the grievances of the common man and will decentralize the process of governance to the Panchayat level so as to mitigate the sufferings of the common masses. He said his party will empower the women folk by providing representation to them in Panchayats.
Omar said that National Conference is concerned about the problems being faced by the people of this far flung and remote area and the party he said will work towards minimizing the miseries to the maximum extent.
Those who addressed the meetings were Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo, Khalid Najeeb Suhwarardy and Dr. Chaman Lal Bhagat.
