JAKFAS pays tributes to contemporary woman sculptor of Jammu

Jammu, Aug 29: An Online National Exhibition of Sculptures of prominent sculptors of the country was inaugurated online by Prabhinder Lall, a senior multimedia artist of Chandigarh.
The exhibition of the thirty sculptures of the well known sculptors of the country, has been organized by J&K Fine Arts Society (JAKFAS), Jammu to pay tributes to Late (Smt.) Gobind Kour, the 1st contemporary woman sculptor of Jammu (J&K).
According to Suresh Sharma, General Secretary, JAKFAS, ‘The objective of organizing this exhibition is to pay respect to the Gurus and the senior artists who proved to be the guiding teachers and established artists in our art circles.’
He added that the art works of invited artists, most of them the students of Smt. Gobind Kour have been displayed in this exhibition, dedicated to her.
The chief guest of the inaugural ceremony Prabhinder Lall has appreciated the initiatives taken by JAKFAS to pay respect to the senior artists and Gurus by organizing art exhibitions dedicated to them.
He said that such events help in having better interaction between the artists and the communities.
The participating artists whose works have been displayed in the exhibition include well known artists viz. Ravinder Jamwal, Ganesh Sharma, Arjinder Kumar, Jasleen Singh, Devi Dass Khatri, Suresh Sharma, Bodh Raj Baldhotra, Darshan Singh, Brij Mohan, Vikas Khajuria, Vikas Dogra (J&K), Jai Singh (Kangra) and Priti Mishra (Lucknow). The art works of Late (Smt.) Gobind Kour have also been included in the show.
It may be mentioned here that Gobind Kour had been an alumni of Institute of Music & Fine Arts, University of Jammu and also worked at the Institute. Born in 1954 she had been the student of renowned sculptor of the state, V R Khajuria. She had been able to show her talent in the field of Stone Carving, Drawing, Print- making and Painting.
She had the chance to display her art at state, national and international levels, and was honoured by many organizations like J&K Academy of Art, Culture and languages, Jammu; Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar; Maha Koushal Kala Parishad, Raipur (MP); Deptt. of Plastic Arts, BHU, Banaras etc. Her works have been collected by Lalit Kala Akademi, N.Delhi; Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur; Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal; J&K Academy of Art, Culture and languages, Jammu; NZCC, Patiala etc.
