EARly Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 30: Rattan Lal Gupta, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Jammu has asserted that it is an irony that despite the Prime Minister time and again reiterating his call to people for adopting ‘Vocal for Local’ the J&K Administration is doing the opposite.
Slamming the BJP led Govt at the Centre for betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the senior NC leader alleged that the present government has not bothered to encourage the local entrepreneurship in J&K especially in Jammu region which is evident from the fact that Pashmina shawl industry in Basohli and Basholi Art are on the brink of extinction in Jammu region today. Moreover, the overall economy of Jammu and Kashmir is in utter turmoil and if the prevailing scenario continues for some more time there is no doubt that the economic disaster in this Union Territory will become irretrievable.
The senior NC leader stated this while welcoming the new entrants into the party fold at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan here today. It is pertinent to mention here that dozens of people hailing from Basohli joined National Conference during simple yet impressive function held at party’s Jammu headquarters. Those who joined the National Conference include : Mohd Irfan, Mohd Rafiq, Pardeep Kumar, Mohd Hussain, Naresh, Mohd Gafoor and others. The joining programme was organized by Raja Rafiq Block President Basholi.
In his address on the occasion, Rattan Lal Gupta hoped that the joining of the new entrants will definitely strengthen the party base in their respective areas by working relentlessly for people’s welfare. Meanwhile, the newly joined members apprised him about the anti-people policies adopted by the present administration. They said lack of employment opportunities, dying of Basohli art, scarcity of power and water supply, lack of education and inadequate healthcare facilities have made the life of the people in and around Basohli region quite miserable.
Rattan Lal Gupta after giving a patient hearing to the woes of the people said that due to callous attitude of the J&K Administration it is unfortunate that Basohli Art is not receiving the requisite thrust and the Pashmina Shawl ventures in the region are facing an imminent closure. He said that during the regime of National Conference, a warehouse was opened in Basohli to provide raw material to the people associated with making of world famous Pashmina Shawls of Basohli but unfortunately the said warehouse stands closed now for the reasons best known to the J&K Administration. He said that Basohli people used to cater to the demand of the aforesaid products in J&K and Punjab but now in absence of the facilities that were provided by NC Govt majority of Pashmina Shawl industry ventures are about to close in Basohli.
The Provincial President also slammed the Administration for shifting the training institute of Basohli Paintings from Basholi to somewhere else.
Asserting that Bani and Basohli have potential to boost the economy of J&K but the present Government has not taken any step to explore the potential of Bani and Basohli including the tourism, he said that these are the reasons that resulted in the economy of J&K going down the drain.
Rattan Lal said that the only solution available to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to get out of the miserable conditions thrust upon them by the BJP Govt is to vote for National Conference in the coming Assembly elections so that it forms the representative Govt on its own. He reiterated that NC alone has the potential of bringing the economy of J&K back on the track.
