Krishi Vigyan Kendra trains Krishi Sakhis of JKRLM

REASI, Aug 31: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) and Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) organized one day training programme for the Krishi Sakhis here today at KVK, Reasi which was enthuastically attended by more than 30 Krishi Sakhis of JKRLM from different blocks of Reasi distt.of J&K. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma, able guidance of Director Extension Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J and with the close co-ordination of Mission Director JKRLM, Ms.Indu Kanwal Chib. The major objective of the training programme was to educate Krishi Sakhis on natural farming and organic farming so as to create agri-entrepreneurship in rural areas of hilly district Reasi distt. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Dr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of participants. During the technical session he elaborated the concept of natural farming and urged the participants to adopt it of commercial level so as to produce the safe and healthy food. He also highlighted the latest techniques in organic farming. Sh.Yougal Kishore Sharma, Nodal Officer, JKRLM, Reasi spoke on women empowerment and highlighted the performance of Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Reasi distt. He discussed on various income generation activities among the rural women. He said that SHGs formation has immense scope in hilly areas and are playing a significant role in improving the socio-economic status of rural women. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist guided the participants on organic horticulture and stressed on high density orchards. He emphasized on the value addition in fruits, vegetables and spices to enhance the income and employment among the rural women. A special video show on entrepreneurship in agriculture was also organized for the participants. The Krishi Sakhis visited the hydroponics unit, greenshade net house, hatchery unit, vermicompost unit, high density orchard unit, DAMU unit etc. established at KVK, Reasi and interacted with the scientists. The scientists replied their quarries in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Sh. Manohar Lal and Sh.Sanjay Kumar and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
