| Mufti: doles alone won’t help J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Anantnag, Dec13: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said that Jammu and Kashmir needs security through development and not through arms. "For PDP, securing political and economic rights of the people of the state is paramount to all other considerations," he said. Addressing series of election rallies in Pahalgam and Bijbehara constituencies here today, Sayeed said PDP's agenda is to ensure political, economic and social security for the potentially gifted people of the state. "Jammu & Kashmir is not a place that needs packages and doles, it has to be given the freedom and assistance to realize its immense economic potential," he said and added that the main source of the State's confidence is the substantial potential of water, mineral, natural and human resource, yet to be utilized to its full economic advantage. Sayeed said there are no limits to the State's economic potential and in addition to its rich water and mineral resources, the brand name Kashmir has many dimensions – be it tourism, art, handicrafts, forests or agricultural and horticultural products. He said the PDP's vision of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir outlined in its Self-Rule document is essentially about neutralizing the historical political and economic excesses with the State that were compounded by its natural and political geography. "PDP's Self-Rule document lays the roadmap for a politically empowered Jammu and Kashmir with a new and modern economic and financial structure as its backbone," he said. "The reiteration of peaceful approach by Kashmiris during the Amarnath land agitation and through their participation in the democratic process," Sayeed said, should be recognized as their strength and responded with reconciling measures like reduction of troops and revocation of special laws to consolidate on this new refreshing scenario developing in the State. Sayeed said Pahalgam is being developed as a world-class tourism spot with a modern golf course and international convention center. He said Bijbehara-Sallar-Pahalgam road would be upgraded on the pattern of Khannabal-Pahalgam road. PDP candidates from Bijbehara and Pahalgam constituencies Abdul Rehman Veeri and Rafi Ahmad Mir also addressed these meetings.
