| Haji Nissar Ali reviews implementation of welfare schemes | | | JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 16- -Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nissar Ali today convened a meeting to review the progress made on various social welfare schemes during the current financial year. Director Social Welfare Mr. Satish Nehru, Deputy Directors, Mr. Sat Paul, Mr. Mohammad Hussain Bhatti and Programme Officers, CDPOs of Jammu Kathua, Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri and Poonch were present. Addressing the officers, the Minister said that the efforts are on to further streamline the working of Social Welfare department so that the deserving people have an easy access to avail benefits of various welfare schemes launched by the State and Central Governments. He stressed upon the officers for immediately providing relief under National Family Benefit Scheme to the family members of bread earners soon after their deaths. He asked the officers to expedite the progress for completion of boys and girls hostels in the districts of Jammu province. He asked the officers to provide timely pre-matric and post-matric scholarship to all the students belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories so that 100 per cent physical and financial achievements is made. He exhorted upon the officers to pay the honorarium to angwanwari workers and helpers who are the main chunk of public mobilizing machinery of the department. He directed them to reimburse the examination fee to all SC students so that they do not face any difficulty. The Minister issued on-the-spot instructions to the officers to organize two camps at block levels in a month to aware the rural women folk about the schemes launched by the social welfare department to uplift the living standard of poor and downtrodden people of the society. He asked the CDPOs to make frequent visits to their respective areas and to check the proper distribution of nutrition among the children He asked the officers that the corruption and irregularities could not be tolerated in the administration at any cost. He said that the coalition government is committed to provide all possible assistance to the people of SC/ST/OBC categories. He cautioned the officers that their performance shall be reflected in their APRs and the erring official shall be taken to task. Director Social Welfare Mr. Satish Nehru apprised the Minister that under pre-metric scholarship out of 247.85 lakh an amount of Rs. 42.76 lakh have been disbursed by ending August, 2006 benefiting 12781 students besides 10744 students of OBC category have also been provided pre-metric scholarship to the tune of Rs. 20.34 lakh. He stated that 379 handicapped students have also been brought under the ambit of the scheme. He further informed that an amount of Rs. 1046.82 lakh has been spent under Integrated Social Security Scheme and 75715 persons have been benefited. He said that an amount of Rs. 25. 75 lakh have been spent on post-matric scholarship benefiting 1732 SC and 314 ST students of Jammu region. Apart from it a Girl hostel at Degree College Rajouri has been completed and handed over to the education authorities besides boys hostel for OBC at MAM College Jammu and SC Girls hostel Bhaderwah are at finishing stage. The work on SC boys hostel Kathua, SC Girls hostel Ramnagar and SC boys hostel GHHS Udhampur going on apace. He revealed that under old age pension scheme 26558 persons were benefited to the end of August 2006. Mr. Nehru has briefed the Minister scheme wise regarding their achievements and impediments faced by the department in the field and sought their solutions from the government. Earlier, the Minister planted a sapling in the premises of Women Working Hostel at Roop Nagar and gave away certificates to Anganwari workers and helpers who have under gone two weeks orientation course. He congratulated the workers on their successful completion of the course. |
