GDC Hiranagar hosts theatre interaction with Padmashri Balwant Thakur

Hiranagar, Sept 5: Padmashri Balwant Thakur the Director of Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, High Commission of India, Mauritius expressed his views on “the Role of Theatre in Education” in an online programme “Vichaar” organised by Department of Music, GLDM GDC Hiranagar. The programme was organised under the patronship of Dr. Pragya Khana, Principal of the College. The programme began with the formal address by Dr. Bharat Bhushan followed by welcome of the dignitaries by the Principal of the College.
Balwant Thakur in his address expressed that theatre is an important institution of the society. The contribution of theatre in the career and confidence building of the students is remarkable.
People everywhere and particularly those involved with acting should be proactive to understand and learn this art. He further said that theatre not only aids in the acting career of an individual but also in the general outlook and improvement of an individual. Every society irrespective of the culture and tradition has to be proactive towards promotion for the same so that it could be passed on to the next generation. He further added that NCERT has also included some drama courses in the upcoming courses. He also enumerated a number of students from the background of theatre who have been appointed to important positions in state and central level administration. He said that theatre should be studied as a course not only because of the interest of students in acting but also for the general understanding of society and culture.
The programme was attended by scholars, administrators and staff members and students of the college and outside the college. The prominent among those were Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Sh. Anil Tikko, Theatre Actor Director Neeraj Kant , Mohammad Yaseen, Prof. Lawanaya Kirti from Bihar, Sh. Sanjay Kumar Choudhary from Jharkhand, Prof. Renu Sehgal from GCW Gandhi Nagar, Prof. Yash from GDC Udhampur, Advocate Dharmavir from District Court Samba, Dr. Nishtha Sharma and Prof. Asha Rani, Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Prof. Bhavana Jamwal, Mr. Vikram Jamwal, Prof. Shujat Khan, Prof. Kiran Thapa, Prof. Arun Kumar, Prof. Rajesh Sharma, Dr. Anju Rani, Dr. Jyoti Rani, Dr. Usha Rani, Prof. Ajay Sharma, Prof. Manjot Singh and many more. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks to the dignitaries and the audience by Dr. Bharat Bhushan. The programme was organized together with the Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports in consultation and support of Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college.
