Teachers' Day celebrated at SKUAST-Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 5: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu today celebrated Teachers Day with fervour and gaiety at Baba Jitto Auditorium, SKUAST-J Chatha.
Prof. J.P. Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.
The event commenced with lighting of the traditional lamp. Prof. J. P. Sharma recalled the immense contributions of second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on whose birthday Teachers' Day is being celebrated throughout the nation. In his address, he said that teacher is a guide who instills confidence in young minds, gives them direction and encourages them to dream. He reiterated that in today's era, having knowledge is a key to success. Prof. Sharma endorsed that teachers are the ones who are true pillars of our success. They nourish and prepare students for their future and are the real icon of knowledge and wisdom. He explained the transformative role of a teacher in a student's life. He urged that teachers must instill values, ethics and quality life skills among students. While recalling the teachings of Shri Krishna, he said we should follow the path of honesty and punctuality. He said that one should never doubt the intention of a teacher as they lead us from darkness to enlightenment. He further said that parents especially mother is the real teacher right from the birth of the child who educates child about moral values, personality development, ethics, skill development, brotherhood and overall development.
Prof. Sharma stressed upon the teachers to give personal attention to students in shaping their career. On this occasion, number of students from Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture viz., Mridul Sharma, Sakshi Sharma, Muskan Kosar, Ankit, Sajad Ahmed Sohail and Tashmeen Ajmal put forth their views and appreciated the role of teacher in the life of a student. Dr. Sushmita Dadhich, Assistant Professor and Mentor of Standard Club SKUAST-Jammu read a message from Bureau of Indian Standard on teacher's day. Earlier Dr. Rajesh Katoch, DSW, SKUAST-Jammu welcomed the guests and put forth his views on teacher's day. Dr. K. K. Sharma, Director Agriculture, Jammu was also present on the occasion.
In his address, he said that God and Guru are two supreme energies which needs to be understood. All the statutory officers of the university, Head of the Divisions, faculty, scientists and large number of students participated in the programme. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Mridul Sharma, student of B.Sc. Agriculture. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rajesh Katoch, DSW, SKUAST-Jammu.
