| Congress sympathizer of Gujjars, poor: Azad | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Ramban, Dec 13- Claiming that Congress is the best sympathizer of Gujjars, the senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that the party has given mandate to eight Gujjar candidates and accused National Conference for exploiting them for their petty political considerations. Azad who was on a whirlwind tour of Bhaderwah, Doda and Ramban constituencies addressed public rallies at Sindra, Udyanpur, Jodhpur,Mohala, Panchai,Manoo,Dessa, Kastigarh and Top Neel as part of his own campaigning, for canvassing in favour of Abdul Majid Wani of Doda and Ashok Kumar of Ramban. He said that no party except Congress has ever cared to improve the lot of Gujjars and Bakerwals. He said that during his short tenure of nearly 32 month about 100 primary schools were opened in the Gujjar areas and assured that if returned back to power he would launch special schemes for the welfare and education of their girls and especially and raise a corpus fund of Rs.20 crore for the marriage of all poor girls including poor Scheduled Casts (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). A special scheme of financial assistance for the education of the girl child of BPL families beyond Matriculation would be launched, he added. He said that he had raised the reservation quota of STs in jobs from 4 per cent to 8 percent and for in service promotion from 5 percent to 10 percent. He said that after noticing that every year crores of rupees meant for the welfare for the STs used to get lapsed. he created a new Directorate for STs. He promised that since roads are the prerequisite of development of any area and if he returns to power, he would cover all villages by roads by next 3 or 4 years. He said that during two years alone 2200 crore was earmarked for the road sector in the state, 40 per cent of which had to be spent in Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts. He said that in Ramban constituency work on 137 Km of total road length involving cost of Rs.59 crore started in 2006 is in the final stage of completion. These roads include 29 Km Karol-Kumet road, 6Km Hewagam-Bohardar road,15 Km Mehar Nera-Ganote road, 24.3 Km Marog –Balihote Ahdwa road,14.47 Km Rajgarh-Shamthi road,11.6 Km BB Ramban-Sonbar road, 10 Km Maitra-Balowt road, 16.7 Km Chanderkot Power House-Rajgarh road and 9.20 Km Hewgam –Dhanmasta road. He promised that if returned to power he would not only regularize all the Daily Wagers but also complete the work of recruiting 70,000 class IV employees besides giving employment to one lakh educated youth. He called upon the public to realize the revolutionary Roshni Scheme under which the free electricity and proprietary rights of 22 lakh Kanal of state land was given to poor farmers. He said that during his tenure apart from granting district status to Ramban, the government also established Trauma Hospital with Blood Bank, opened Degree College while several Primary, Middle and High Schools were upgraded. He said that had the Congress government not fallen prematurely more Tehsils and Blocks would have been created in Doda and Ramban Districts. |
