KVK, ICDS organize programme on Balanced Nutrition

POONCH, Sept 8: Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Sher-e-Kashmir University conducted an awareness programme on National Nutrition Week at Poonch campus in collaboration with Mission Directorate ICDS, District Poonch. The programme was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Prof J P Sharma Vice Chancellor and overall supervision of Dr S K Gupta Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu. On this occasion, Dr Ajay Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head informed that National Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from September 1 to 7 to create awareness about good nutrition and health and this year Nutrition week is celebrated with the theme "Celebrate a World of Flavours''. He explained that the objective was to create awareness about the importance of nutrition for good health which has far-reaching implications on economic growth and National Development. Speaking about the problem of malnutrition in India, he highlighted that India has marginally improved to address the issues of stunting, underweight and severely wasted among children and women. He elaborated various Government schemes to fight malnutrition especially among Women and Children and also spoke on the importance of pulses and millets in human diet for balanced nutrition. The programme was attended by more than sixty anganwari workers of Block Haveli. Dr. Ramandeep Kour on this occasion highlighted the need for sensitizing rural and household women regarding importance of nutritional food, vegetables and fruits in human diet. He informed that malnutrition is a serious problem in Poonch district among adolescent girls, pregnant women and children. The programme ended with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Ramandeep Kour.
