NC pays glowing tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir on 40th death anniversary

JAMMU, Sept 8: National Conference on Thursday paid glowing tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on his 40th death anniversary with senior leaders and prominent workers taking a pledge to work towards realizing the vision of the towering leader of the sub-continent in making Jammu and Kashmir a politically stable, peaceful and prosperous State and preserving its special identity.
Leading the cadre in paying floral homage to Baba-e-Quom at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning, Provincial President Jammu Province Mr Rattan Lal Gupta said the best tribute to the leader of masses will be to strengthen Hindu, Muslim, Sikh amity, which is central to glorious fabric of the J&K.
Echoing sentiments of the workers, Gupta recalled how Sher-e-Kashmir stood like a rock to preserve the distinct secular character of the state besides its peculiar status when it was at peril during the most testing time of the history. He said National Conference will continue to strive for upholding the dignity of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
In his tribute, senior leader and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said National Conference has inherited the legacy of Sher-e-Kashmir and is committed to bequeath it to posterity by setting an example of fighting the divisive and disruptive elements tooth and nail. He urged the people to join this effort and help in restoring Jammu and Kashmir its pristine glory
Sadhotra threw light on various facets of Sher-e-Kashmir's life and recalled his sacrifice and contribution to ameliorate the lot of people, especially those belonging to weaker and down-trodden segments of society.
Mubarak Gul former minister said that upholding the cherished slogan of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Buddhist unity was the biggest and most befitting tribute to Sheikh Sahib, especially as there was grave threat from those who were trading religion for their political sustenance. He said that Jammu and Kashmir will always remain indebted to Sheikh Sahib for laying the deep foundations of democracy in the State. He said Sheikh Sahib's contribution has been immense in politico-economic empowerment of various segments of the society across the State.
Conducting the proceedings and giving an overview of the revolutionary measures taken by Sher-e-Kashmir, Provincial Secretary Sheikh Bashir Ahmed said that Jammu and Kashmir is the only State across the country where people have roof over their heads. He said Sher-e-Kashmir has laid such an edifice in all the sectors that Jammu and Kashmir can become a most prosperous and self-reliant state in times to come. He described Single Line Administration, introduced by Sheikh Sahib as one of the important measures to decentralise powers.
Paying tribute to Sheikh Sahib, former Minister and Zone President Chenab Valley Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo recalled the relentless efforts of the towering leader in forging bonds of amity between various segments of the society. He especially recalled the glorious role of Sher-e-Kashmir in spread of education and empowerment of marginalised segments of the society.
Paying tribute to Sheikh Sahib, Bimla Luthra former MLA said late Sher-I-Kashmir's overall development for women folk in the state during his tenure as CM were iconic. Those programmes were launched to empower womenfolk in the state. His life was for the welfare of the overall state which will be remembered for the years to come, she added
Paying tribute to Sheikh Sahib, Deepender Kour former MLC, Bushan Lal Bhat Ex-MLC, Brij Mohan Sharma Vice President Jammu Province, Ajaz Jan P.P YNC, Vijay Lochan P.P SC Cell, Abdul Gani Teli P.P OBC Cell, Master Noor Hussain, Pardeep Bali,Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Satwant Kour Dogra Provincial President Jammu Province WomenWing, Shamshad Shan DDC Chairman Ramban, Shahmim Begum DDC Dansal, Zeeshan Rana Addl Spokesperson, Th. Yashu Vardhan Singh, Rajni Devi BDC Bari Brahamna, Nar Singh, Raghvir Singh Manhas, Naresh Bhittu, Sudagar Chand Gupta, recalled the revolutionary land reforms undertaken by Sher-e-Kashmir to improve the lot of peasants and said this transformed the entire rural landscape decades ago. He said the grateful people will always remain indebted to the grand contribution of Sheikh Sahib. He said that his contribution in empowerment of weaker sections of society and carving out a just society with opportunities of progress to all is a hallmark of his political odyssey. In the wee hours, Quran Khwani was organized by G.H Malik at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan while all religious prayers were conducted by Mubarak Gul, Brij Mohan Sharma, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, S. Gurnam Singh and Waris Gill.
