| Farooq says will devolve powers grassroots | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAMBAN, Dec 14: Dr. Farooq Abdullah former chief minister and patron National Conference has said that his party always had a "vision" of an ideal society adding that the party has outlined its road map for the development and if voted to power would ensure that it is backed up by a competent delivery mechanism so that its benefits reach to the people at the grass roots level. Dr Farooq Abdullah was addressing series of public meetings at Desa, Bhartund and Kastigarh in Ramban assembly constituency in support of Dr. Chaman Lal Bhagat. Dr. Abdullah asked the voters to exercise their franchise in favour of his party so that the "vision" of a prosperous state in which every individual lives with dignity and earns his livelihood with honest toil is given practical shape. Castigating the Congress-PDP coalition government for indulging in divisive politics, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said both PDP and Congress tried to divide the people of the state on regional, religious, caste and ethnic basis for vote bank politics thereby destroying the traditional secular fabric of the state. He said voted to power National Conference will work to restore the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood among the people of the state. Dr. Abdullah said those who have tried and are trying to create fissures among the people of the state are going to get a befitting reply from the people through ballot and asserted that his party is committed to the development of the far flung areas of the state and is concerned about the plight of the people of the state staying in the far flung areas because they have been neglected by the coalition Government during the last six years. Referring to the high potential of tourism in these areas, Dr. Abdullah said National Conference if voted to power will bring the area under tourist map, which besides giving fillip to the economy of the state create avenues of employment for the localities. Dr. Abdullah promised that the minimum wages of the labourers will be raised from Rs. 70 to Rs. 150 per day so as to improve their living condition. The party will subsidize electricity tariff, LPG and will open fair price ration shops in every village of the state and 16 items constituting basic essentialities shall be included in the list of PDS to ensure that the poor people could get all the basic essentialities at reasonable rates. He also promised enhancement of the amount of old age and handicapped pension. The meetings at these places were also addressed by Dr. Chaman Lal Bhagat, party's candidate from Ramban assembly constituency. |
