Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 17: Akhil Bharatiya Gaushala Research Foundation (ABGRF) has overwhelming welcomed the decision of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s announcement of the decision declaring a much-awaited public holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh on 23rd September.
In this regard, a meeting of the key officials of the Foundation members was held at the Jammu office in Nanak Nagar here today.
Speaking in the meeting, Advocate P.S Chandel, Convener ABGRF said that the Foundation has welcomed the decision of J&K UT Government for announcing holiday on Maharaja’s birthday as it was a long pending demand of the people of Jammu region.
“Maharaja Hari Singh as a ruler of Jammu and Kashmir did not belong to any particular community but was the leader of masses.
The people, especially in Jammu region, have very strong attachment to the erstwhile king due to his modern reforms that cut across social, religious, caste and gender barriers to impart justice to all and that it was he who finally signed the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947, making Jammu and Kashmir an inseparable part of the world’s largest democracy,” he said.
He further said Maharaja Hari Singh was a great educationist, progressive thinker, social reformer and a towering man of ideas and ideals.
He said that this holiday will be a humble tribute to the last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh who undoubtedly was a great reformer and visionary which is evident from the reforms brought by him during his tenure as the king of erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Foundation members have expressed gratitude to the Lt Governor for the decision duly respecting the sentiments of Dogras.
Among others who were present in the meeting include State Chairman Ram Langar, State President Dr. Vikas Bhardwaj, State Vice President Ravi Abrol, State General Secretary Sunil Magotra, State Treasurer Sanjay Pargal, State Secretary Rakesh Sharma and State Secretary Mohit Sharma.
