| Janak lambastes NC, PDP of hoodwinking people | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 14: Intensifying the election campaign Congress leader and former M P Janak Raj Gupta today visited Sainik Colony, Bari Brahmana, Kaluchak and Kirpind and addressed public rallies in support of the party candidates. Addressing the meetings, Gupta lambasted NC, PDP for raising emotive slogans like greater autonomy and self rule and said that the state is already enjoying the special status under Article 370 and raising such issues was nothing but to hoodwink and mislead the electorate. Assuring that if voted back to power, the Congress government would accomplish all the tasks envisaged in the election manifesto and maintained that most of the promises made during 2002 elections have been fulfilled by the party. Despite difficulties, the congress led government delivered and responded vigorously to the democratic and developmental aspirations of the people’, he said and pointed out that apart from impressive achievements on almost all sectors, the Azad led government put in substantial efforts to promote the process of peace and harmony in the state. He said the focus of the party, if voted back to power, would be on restoration of complete normalcy, social and communal harmony, good governance and a relentless fight against the terrorism and corruption, apart from creation of infrastructure for overall progress of the state. Gupta said the measures initiated by the congress led government during its 32 month rule had the cumulative impact on the socio-economic transformation of the people adding that for the first time massive social service sector infrastructure has been created which included hospitals, colleges, industrial training institutes, professional colleges, net work of roads, bridges, power houses besides tourism infrastructure. He appealed the electorate to make judicious use of their vote and see that vote goes only to that party which can deliver on the ground and meets the development needs of the people. Om Chopra, Anoop Khajuria, Inder Sehgal, V K Sethi, B S Masthana, Kairtan Singh and Aijaz Ahmed Wani were among those who accompanied Gupta during electioneering. |
