KVK organizes national campaign on Poshan Abhiyan, tree plantation

jammu, Sept 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised National Campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation here at KVK, Reasi campus in collaboration with IFFCO which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi. He spoke on women and children health and stressed on the balanced diet. He further said that balance diet includes the vitamins such as Vitamins D,B2,B6, B12 and minerals such iron, folic acid, iodine and calcium. He narrated that good health has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development. He expressed that children require the special attention for their diet as malnutrition leads to irreversible damage including the brain and intellectual development. He emphasized on the body weight management among the adolescent girls and boys. He also spoke in length on Nutri gardens and Nutri Thali. He guided the farm women on proper layout of nutri garden and suggested then how to run it throughout the year.Dr.Lalit Upadhyay, Scientist, KVK, Reasi warmly welcomed of the participants. He briefed the significance of the event and said that every year nutritional month is celebrated in September month throughout the country. He educated the farm women on women and child health care and guided then on kitchen gardening. He stressed on more and more plantation for environmental protection. Dr.Lobzang Stanzen, Scientist gave a detail view on balanced diet and emphasized on the intake of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, millets, cereals, pulses and milk for a good health. He said that there is urgent need to focus on the importance of nutrition for the good health of the children. He also spoke on the biofortified varieties of nutrition. Sarpanch of the area Sh.Sukhdev Singh that there is dire need to eliminate the menace of malnutrition and said that every individual should try to improve his or her nutrition level. He appreciated the KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme in the rural areas. During the programme quality seeds of vegetables and plants were also distributed among the farmers. An exhibition depicting various technologies was also arranged for the participants. The participants asked the quarries regarding the nutri-gardens and balanced nutrition which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientists. During the programme Naib Sarpanch of the area, Sh.Kamal Singh, Panch Sh.Girdhari Lal and an awardee farmer, Sh.Shail Singh were also present. The programme was assisted by Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Lobzang Stanzen with formal vote of thanks.
