| 3/4th of terror worldwide has roots in Pak: Brown | | | AGENCIES Islamabad, Dec 14: As part of the international community’s efforts to pressurise Pakistan to take action in the aftermath of Mumbai terror attacks, British PM Gordon Brown on Sunday said that three-fourths of the terror attacks worldwide have been traced to Pakistan. Addressing a joint press conference with President Asif Ali Zardari, Brown – in a chilling reminder to Pakistan – said that the time has come for action, not words. In a statement aimed at calming India’s nerves, the British PM said that Zardari has assured that he will clamp down on terror. Promising all assistance to Pakistan to bolster its counter-terror programme, Brown assured a package of GBP 6 million to help the Islamic nation fight terror. Brown revealed that he has asked Indian PM Manmohan Singh and President Zardari to allow the British police to interrogate those arrested in connection with the Mumbai attack. It may be noted that three British citizens were killed in the Mumbai mayhem. Meanwhile, Zardari said, “We are ready to help India.” Replying to a question over the alleged appeasement of India, he said, “I am not appeasing India. I am assisting the international community, myself and Pakistan.” He further said that this is an opportunity to cooperate with India and strengthen the bilateral relations. Toning down his response over the alleged violation of the Pakistani airspace by Indian fighter jets, Zardari said, “It was a technical incursion, which was unintended.” Answering a question over perceived delay in investigating the lone captured terrorist Kasab’s Pakistani links, the Bhutto widower said, “Once Indian government completes its investigation and shares it with us, we will take actions if any culprit is on this side.” Earlier in the day, Brown met PM Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and said that Lashkar-e-Taiba is behind the Mumbai attacks. |
