Cinemas return to Kashmir

Cinema halls have returned to Kashmir after three decades. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during the past few days, inaugurated two cinema halls in Shopian and Pulwama districts in South Kashmir and a multiplex in Srinagar city.
Sinha after inaugurating the cinema halls stated that all the 20 districts in J&K will get the theatres so that the people can watch the movies on big screens.
For 33 years people of Kashmir remained deprived of cinema halls that were closed down in the Valley when a Pakistan sponsored insurgency broke out in 1990. At that point of time radical terror group, ‘Allah Tigers’ banned cinema halls, beauty parlours, video parlours, etc. in Kashmir.
In the late 90s the government tried to reopen the cinema halls but the ultras carried out grenade attacks on these complexes which led to the closure of these facilities.
The first multiplex in Kashmir that was inaugurated in Srinagar by LG Sinha on Tuesday has three movie theatres with a total capacity of 520 seats. The premises have food courts aimed at promoting local cuisine.
The violence and terrorism kept the people of Kashmir deprived from development in all the sectors. Entertainment was the worst hit sector. Cinemas were closed down and the Bollywood stopped coming to Kashmir for shooting the films after 1990. Besides the entertainment industry, the tourism industry was pushed to the edge as the tourists also stopped visiting Kashmir.
Pakistan sponsored insurgency created chaos and confusion in the Himalayan region and hit the people of Kashmir from all the sides. Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave everything behind and leave the Valley as the selective killings of KPs created fear among the community members.
After August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate Article 370—the situation in Kashmir has changed for the good. Security forces are having an upper hand over the terrorists.
They are not allowing the ultras to disturb peace. The terrorists are on the run as their eco-system has been hit hard.
Their supporters have been nailed and terror eco-system stands dismantled and pristine glory of Kashmir is being restored. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, led regime taking a bold decision to scrap Article 370 has turned the heat on Pakistan and the terrorists sponsored by it.
