Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 23: The 127th birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh was celebrated at Maharaja Hari Singh Chowk Sainik Colony. Th. Jai Singh Sr. leader was the organizer of the function. Corporator Gurmeet Randhawa was guest of honour. On this occasion Th. Jai Singh talks about developments and reforms during Maharaja Hari Singh rule. He ruled the most troubled region of the sub continent during the most turbulent time of history when the sub continent was divided on the basis of religion. He took an all time historic decision and signed the instrument of accession in favour of India on 26th October 1947. J&K was the only state that was independent and was not under British rule. Today J&K is a part of democratic India and we are Indian because of Maharaja Hari Singh. His rule has been described as glorious by British historians because of several reforms that he introduced in administration and judiciary. The population at the time of Maharaja Hari Singh was 78% of Muslim and 22% of Hindus. But despite of that both community loves him equally. There are numerous instances worth mentioning but few of them such as making primary education compulsory for all men and women, prohibiting child marriage and opening all the places of worship for low caste are remarkable. He opened a lot of new schools and colleges to promote education. He managed to check corruption in the administration by adopting unique ways of detecting corruption. He banned beggar and it is said that during his rule none dared to accept bribes. His main focus was on agriculture. He built Ranbir Canal and Pratap Canal. He made Maharaja Gulab Singh hospital. He made degree colleges in Jammu, Srinagar and Bhaderwah. He was totally faithful towards people.
Th. Jai Singh also thanks Lt Governor Sh. Manoj Sinha for declaring 23rd September as holiday in J&K. He also appeals to Corporator Gurmeet Randhawa ji to install statue of Maharaja Hari Singh ji at Maharaja Hari Singh Chowk Sainik Colony. Th. Jai Singh also states that the statehood should be given back to J&K.On this occasion, many people were present. They were:
Corporator Sobat Ali, Corporator Gourav Chopra, Corporator Gurmeet Randhawa, Abhimanyu Jamwal (Chairman Dussehra Committee Sainik Colony), Narinder Singh (Ex Mayor JMC), Ashwani Handa, Madam Prabha Slathia, Anil Kohli, Sikander Singh Kuka, Bhishan Singh Raju, Mohinder Singh, Sardar Daleep Singh, Master Anand Khajuria.
