Stop exploitation of daily wagers at hands of bureaucrats: Rattan Lal
9/25/2022 10:30:18 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 25 : J&K National Conference today raised serious concern over the burning issue of daily wagers who were on strike for the last more than three months and are lurching for their genuine rights since the last so many years.
In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President JKNC Jammu said that the government, despite giving assurances to the daily wagers community, has done nothing to bail out this unfortunate segment of workers from the years’ long misery. He said that main issue of regularization must be met immediately. Moreover this hapless segment of society has been victimized by denying the monthly remuneration for months together leaving the workers and their poor families on the mercy of God because under prevailing record breaking inflation, sustaining livelihood without pay and perk is next to impossible.
The Provincial President JKNC termed the formation of so called Advisory Board by the Jammu and Kashmir Government for revision of minimum wages under the Minimum Wages Act was just an eye wash. He said that the government has miserably failed to regularize them. He said that government cannot marginalize the daily workers who toil much harder than the permanent employees.
“Denying timely pay and keeping them in dark on the issue of regularization is nothing but sheer injustice therefore the government should immediately take up this matter and ensure that the pending dues are released as soon as possible and the process of releasing the perks is streamlined so that no daily wager or his or her family should suffer or starve”, he said adding that BJP government has assured that it will ensure the regularization of daily wagers on priority but like all other promises this one also proved out to a big Jumla of saffron party.
Rattan Lal Gupta laid stress on daily wagers working in the Jal Shakti Department are the most affected due to the phlegmatic approach of the government towards their plight.
He demanded that the government should streamline the entire set-up so that no daily wager should feel the heat of the government's lackadaisical approach.
The senior NC leader alleged that despite highlighting their issues from time to time, no one in the concerned quarters is in mood to budge and as a result daily wagers are living under desperate conditions and many among them are on the brink of starvation. He said that the heads of the departments on one side want to get their salaries on the very first day of the month but they are carefree as far as perks of the daily wagers are concerned because these poor guys have to wait for months together to get the meager amount which they get has remuneration.
The Provincial President asked Central govt administration to intervene and look into the matter with a sympathetic view because the J&K administration is totally failed to solve this issue and the Daily wagers are passing through a real difficult time. Besides, he appealed to LG administration to first implement the Minimum Wages Act to stop exploitation of poor labourers at the hands of bureaucrats and public sector.
He also sought that the monthly remuneration of the daily wagers must be released on time as running the affairs of family without the salary is not possible these days.
