Vice-President of Kashmir party in touch with Azad
9/26/2022 12:49:46 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 25: Even as former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad is all set to launch his political party in the coming days, the Vice President of a Kashmir based party is in touch with the Congress rebel.
Sources said the said leader, who is also the vice President of the Party has been in touch with the former Chief Minister since almost the day the latter left the Congress in August.
Sources said the politician, who has previously worked with Azad wants to join him again “only to work for people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The sources said the said politician has not been attending his party meetings for the last around a fortnight “despite reminders from the party high command.”
The veteran Congress leader, who ended his more than five-decade-long association with the party last month, is likely to launch his party in the next couple of days.
Azad has arrived in Jammu on Sunday. “I am inviting the media tomorrow (Monday) before the launch of the party. I am here to meet workers and leaders,” Azad told reporters in a brief interaction at his residence here upon his arrival from Delhi.
The sources said after a brief stay in Jammu, Azad will travel to Srinagar where he is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with his colleagues ahead of the party formation.
The sources said the name and the flag of the new party have been finalised and that the party could be in place in around a week.
Azad, 73, quit Congress on August 26, terming the party “comprehensively destroyed”. He also lashed out at Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi for “demolishing” the party’s entire consultative mechanism.
Over two dozen prominent Congress leaders including former deputy chief minister Tara Chand, several former ministers and legislators also resigned from the Congress in support of Azad.
Despite repeated attempts the said politician who looks ahead to join Azad couldn’t be contacted for comments.
