| Ladakh festival concludes | | | Leh Sept 16 - As many as 38380 tourists visited Leh from January to mid September, 2006 surpassing previous record. This was stated by Chief Executive Councilor Mr. Tsering Dorje at the concluding function of Ladakh festival 2006. Mr. Tsering Dorje was the Chief Guest on the Valedictory function of the 15-day long Ladakh festival 2006. Mr. Dorje said that Ladakh festival has not only promoted tourist influx in Ladakh but it has also helped to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh. He urged the people of Ladakh to preserve and protect its rich cultural heritage, which will go a long way in attracting tourists. Ladakh is a unique land with multiethnic, multicultural, multilingual people. Large number foreign tourists also witnessed the function. While pointing to the foreign tourists Mr. Dorje said that they are the ambassadors of Ladakh in their respective countries and should take with them the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh. Among others the valedictory function was attended by a galaxy of important guests, Executive Councilors Mr. Norboo Lampa, former Chief Executive Councilor Mr. Rigzin Spalbar, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Mr. M.K. Dwivedi, SSP Leh, Mr. Alok Kumar, head of religious organizations, prominent citizens and a large number of men and women. More than 400 hundred foreign attended the function. A colorful cultural programme were presented on the valedictory function. The slow stepped Ladhaki traditional folk dance also forced foreigners to join in the mass dance out of excitement and enjoyment. The cultural programs, the Lama mask dances, the polo match, the archery, rock climbing, river rafting, crava silk route scene were some of the programs of the festival. |
