| Close contest between Cong-NC on Doda seat | | | Shariq Nabi Doda, Dec 16- Doda constituency which once was considered as the hot seat of National Conference (NC) was lost by the party to an independent candidate Abdul Majid Wani during last assembly elections due to anti-incumbency wave by a margin of 750 votes. This time too, it is believed that a close fight between the NC candidate, Khalid Najeeb Shourwardhy and Congress candidate Abdul Majid Wani will be witnessed. If opinion of political thinkers were to be believed it is predicted that Congress candidate is in good position but that does not mean that NC will give up without resisting. Moreover this time the situation has altogether changed as the number of contesting has doubled. Against 10 candidates in 2002 elections, 20 are in the fray for the seat. It is believed that poll turn out too will increase which is considered as a good sign for the contestants as well. Congress candidate is playing his development plank to retain his seat and is speaking of congress government’s achievements of opening of new Colleges, up-gradation of schools, roads, bridges etc frequently. Besides this, Wani is advocating Azad’s native card and is speaking it regularly. Calling it as privilege for the Doda district that for first time CM was elected from Jammu region and that too from this district and it is golden chance for this belt to vote him. In addition to this he is promising to bring the development unto villages and is playing it wisely. While NC candidate has nothing to speak of except nailing on incomplete development and biased development of Bhaderwah constituency. Promising to give employment to all educated youths NC candidate is once again trying to play the card of employment which he played last time also. Moreover, he is frequently speaking of biased development of Bhaderwah tehsil, being CM’s constituency and lapsing of major share of funds during the previous regime of government. Although Wani has done lot of developmental works during his tenure but in the changed scenario the locals perceive that anti-incumbency factor may tilt the balances in favour of NC candidate. Moreover the sustained campaign by NC party stalwarts too has created a wave in favour of NC but weather it would translate into votes as well would be hard to say. On the other side Congress candidate has left no stone unturned and has campaigned door to door on self and along with parties CM candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad as well. Moreover, party chairperson Sonia Gandhi too visited this far off district to campaign for her party candidate. It is not totally bi-polar contest but other parties like Smajwadi Party (SP), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some independents too can create an impact over the poll result and can change the total scenario. Doda assembly segment has 71033 registered electorate of which 37495 are male and 35352 are female voters. The total number of polling stations setup here are 108 of which 44 are hyper sensitive. Sixteen additional polling stations were created this time.
