KVK organises field day on blackgram crop

REASI, Sept 30: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu organized field day on black gram crop here today at Bhangal village of Katra block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthustically attended by a number of farmers/women farmers of the area. The major objective of the programme was to educate and showcase the technologies to the farmers on blackgram cultivation through Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs). The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The programme was initiated by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi with the warm welcome of the participants. He elaborated the importance of pulses in our diet and highlighted the nutritive value of pulses. He said that black gram is one of the leading pulse crops in the area and its production and quality needs to be increased. He guided farmers on the scientific farming of pulses and urged farmers to adopt the innovative technologies of pulses recommended by KVK. He stressed on improved varieties of pulses and narrated that scientific cultivation of pulses can help the farmers to enhance their crops productivity. He emphasized on timely weeding/hoeing and the balance dose of manures and fertilizers in blackgram crop so that pulses production can be enhanced in the area. He elaborated certain diseases and insect-pests infesting pulse crops and gave their remedial measures. He informed that pulses help to increase the fertility of the soil by fixing the nitrogen in the soil.
