| Pandey reviews sanitation program | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, DEC 16: To review implementation of various schemes under Rural Sanitation programme, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey convened meeting of Rural Sanitation Department here today. Interacting with the participants, Mr. Pandey took stock of the Rural Sanitation Programme being implemented at village level. He emphasized on interaction with community members, personal interaction at field level, awareness generation programmes at school, college level to achieve better results. He said to address the grievances at village level, it is imperative to consult the village heads and then formulate a village development plan. Effective communication in the field through radio is equally important and more appealing than print material, he added. Discussing measures for proper solid and liquid waste management and garbage collection, disposal, the Divisional Commissioner advised the members to select one village each in separate block and enforce proper and simple garbage collection and disposal system. He said the degradable and non degradable waste should be separated for proper disposal. The participants apprised the Divisional Commissioner of the progress achieved so far in their respective blocks and also putforth various problems particularly in field. They also gave certain valuable suggestions. Director Rural Sanitation Sardar Mohammad Shabbir Khan, ACD Reasi and BDO’s besides offices of various departments were present. Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner convened meeting of UTEIC (Urban Transport Environment Improvement Committee) to discuss certain cases requiring permission for construction of additional blocks for commercial purposes. IGP Traffic, Dr. S. P. Vaid, Chief Town Planner, Vice Chairman JDA, Commissioner JMC, SE PWD and senior officers from R&B, JMC, JDA were present on the occasion. Threadbare deliberations were held while deciding the cases of various business establishments who had sought permission for additional commercial activity. Asserting that decision to allow construction work should come only after ascertaining that the norms and conditions mentioned in the master plan are fulfilled by the business organizations, Mr. Pandey said that there should be no violation. He said it should not create traffic, parking problems or any other inconvenience. He also asked the Committee members to take immediate action against the violators.
