| Disproportionate assets case | | Charges framed against then Girdawar, his wife | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec17- Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu BL Bhat today framed charges against Purshtom Singh and his wife Usha Rani for possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 65, 96, 575 and directed for trial of the case. While framing charge u/s 5(1) (e) r/w section 5(2) PC Act 2006 BK, r/w section 12/14, 13/15 Public men and Public Servants (declaration) of assets and other provisions) Act, 1983 r/w section 168 and 120 RPC, Special Judge Anticorruption, after hearing CPO Purshtom Sharma appearing for the VOJ and perusing the final report and the relevant documents observed that the Court finds prima facie commission of offence under the said sections against the accused Purshtom Singh then Girdawar Settlement Udhampur whereas prima-facie case for offence u/s 120-B against accused Usha Rani wife of Purshtom Singh is made out. Special Judge ordered for a trial and directed prosecution to adduce evidence. The personal appearance of the accused Usha Rani is dispensed with and her counsel is permitted to conduct defence in her absence, the judge ordered. According to the VOJ case the total value of assets raised by the accused amounted to Rs 1, 57, 27, 244 while as his total income from all known sources has been Rs 1, 44, 30, 579, during the check period and total expenditure incurred was Rs 50, 14, 999 thereby showing disproportionate assets the tune of Rs 65, 96, 575..
