Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 13: 03 days course on "Increasing Menace of Narcotics among Youths-Challenges in handling and Investigation of NDPS Cases" commenced today. Twenty seven J&K Police Officers from various Units participated. The course has been designed to analyse various factors responsible for growing drug peddling among different nations and to make aware the participants about the legal aspects to handle the cases related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances. In the Inaugural session Pawan Kumar, Superintendent of Police SKPA explained that effective policing is very essential to curb the menace of narcotics in the society. The NDPS Act, as its preamble says, was enacted to consolidate and amend the laws related with narcotic drugs, to make stringent provisions for the control, regulation and operation related with Narcotic Drugs and for matters connected therewith. It has enlarged the scope of enforcement activity by authorising various central and state law enforcement agencies for the purpose of enforcement of the provisions of the said act. It is felt that a serious reduction in the supply and demand of illicit drugs can only be accomplished and determined with a cooperative effort between law enforcement agencies and the community which we serve. It is only possible when the officers of J&K Police will be responsible enough to discharge their duties with respect to various provision of laws related with NDPS. Inaugural session was also attended by Sunmati Gupta, Dy.SP, AD(Q). The course is being coordinated by Tahir Hussain, AD(I) and Tarseem Lal Inspr. Member faculty.
