Jammu, Oct 14: BIS organizes “Manak Mahotsava” programme on the occasion of World Standards Day, Bureau of Indian Standards - Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized “Manak Mahotsava” programme on the theme “Shared Vision for a Better World” in Bari Bhramana, Samba.
Each year on 14 October, the member countries of the IEC, ISO and ITU celebrate this day to pay tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts who develop the Standards. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology – Jammu, Prof. J.P. Sharma was the Chief Guest for the event.
The aim of this event was to create awareness among the stakeholders including Regulators, Industry, Academia, R&D Institutions and Consumers on their roles in realizing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations to promote prosperity while protecting the planet, for achieving by 2030. Standards touch almost every part of our daily lives. They ensure that products and services work the way that we expect them to, making life safer and more enjoyable.
On the occasion, Prof. J.P. Sharma emphasized on Agriculture and Industry Partnership for value addition of Agricultural produce and for post-harvest management to reduce wastage.
This will support the farmers in doubling their income and will also give new thrust to J&K Industry in the current scenario. In this program, BIS JKBO felicitated the Long-Standing Licensees of the region and awarded BIS Certification Licences to new licensees.
The Technical Session was chaired by S. Ramesh Kumar, Director, Deptt. of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing – Jammu.
In his concluding remarks, S. Ramesh Kumar recommended that BIS should promote sustainable approach in Industry by felicitating the Licensees who are doing sustainable manufacturing which was well taken by BIS JKBO.
All the resource persons promoted the concept of circular economy in industry to realize the SDGs.
