REASI, Oct 15: Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) has been conferred with the prestigious 'Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam-Puruskar-2022' today during the virtual International Conference on New Horizons in Interdisciplinary Research and International Award ceremony on the birth anniversary of Missile Man of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on World Students' Day. The event was jointly organised by IIMT College of Engineering, Greater Noida and International Council of Social Reforms and Research in association with Institute for Social Reforms and Higher Education. The coveted award has been conferred to the scientist in recognisation of his meritorious achievements and outstanding accomplishments in the agricultural sector. The research committee considered Dr.Banarsi for the prestigious award on the basis of his profile comprising the research papers published in reputed journals as first author, books as first author, book chapters as first author, popular and research articles as first author, research and innovative extension technologies devised and disseminated etc. Dr.Banarsi is an alumnus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi and he has developed an innovative Exponential Model of Communication which is unique in itself to assess the communication behaviour of the farmers and has been recognized at national and international level. Dr.Banarsi hails from Kathua district of J&K and has been working at KVK, Reasi for more than 15 years. Dr.Banarsi has written more than 600 publications as research papers in national and international journals, technical bulletins, leaflets, folders, books and book chapters, popular and research articles, success stories/case studies, training manuals, short communications etc. He is also working in many projects to develop agri-entrepreneurship among the rural youths, farmers and farm women. During the conference, Dr.Banarsi discussed on the innovations especially for the small and marginal farmers of hilly areas to raise their socio-economic status. He is also recipient of many awards at zonal, national and international level. Presently he is an active member of many Professional Societies.
