Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 17: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu Chapter (PHDCCI) in association with PHDCCI Hospital & Diagnostics Committee and BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital organized an Awareness program on Gastrointestinal Oncology on 15th October 2022.
Rahul Sahai, Senior Member PHDCCI Jammu Chapter in his opening remarks and welcome address said that Health and health care need to be distinguished from each other for no better reason than that the former is often incorrectly seen as a direct function of the latter. Heath is clearly not the mere absence of disease. Good Health confers on a person or groups freedom from illness - and the ability to realize one’s potential. Health is therefore best understood as the indispensable basis for defining a person’s sense of well being.
He also said that Medical technology has given us endless possibilities. Newer treatments, smarter therapies and breakthroughs in healthcare have put us steps ahead of some of the most life threatening diseases. But in the absence of awareness, these advancements fail to serve their purpose he added.
Sahai Said that as technologies pave the way for better treatments, it is time for Indian healthcare system to bring them to its people. After all, awareness is the stepping stone towards fighting the most critical disease battles.
Bhupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Govt of J & K was the Chief Guest of this awareness programme and joined the awareness session through virtual mode. While addressing the delegate he said that screening and early detection of cancer is very important. He said that complete screening should be done for a person above the age of 30 years. He shared that a dedicated cancer unit is coming up in Jammu. AIIMS at Vijaypur will have a full-fledged department of oncology. He said that health care system will be developed at the district levels which will be more affordable. He shared information about various schemes of Healthcare like PMJAY etc. Mr Kumar appreciated the effort of PHDCCI in organizing this awareness programme on GI Oncology. He said that there is great need of such awareness programmes and industry, association and other community centers has a great role to play.
