Assault dog Ace to succeed Zoom in anti-terror operations
10/17/2022 11:22:49 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 17: Even as glowing tributes were paid to Zoom, the assault dog who died after sustaining injuries in an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag on October 14, another canine -Ace is set to succeed the fallen hero in fighting terror in the valley.
Official sources said the training of assault dog Ace has almost completed and that he would soon join the Indian Army in combating terror in Kashmir region.
It was reliably learnt that the assault dog has been highly trained not only in sniffing out terrorists but to drag them out of the hideouts. The sources said assault dogs are being trained in Jammu and Kashmir itself at undisclosed locations for a major counter insurgency offensive against the Pakistan sponsored terror.
The sources said the Master Trainers of the Indian Army are on the job of giving “specialized training in fighting terrorism to the elite breed of dogs.” The training for anti-terror operations to dogs takes around one-and-a- half year to complete, said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. Zoom was the second dog to fell prey to the bullets of the terrorists in the last few months.
On July 31, Axel, another brave assault dog of the Indian Army got killed. The two-year-old assault dog who was hit around the head by three bullets and killed instantly after being sent to sniff out the terror location, was carrying a specialized device to give exact location of the terrorists.
Sources said mostly Belgian Malinois are being trained for counter insurgency operations in Kashmir.
Explaining the role of assault dogs, a Master Trainer told the Early Times that such canines were an asset for the Indian Army and that training them to fight terror was a specialized job for which the animals are constantly trained for months. “They are absolutely different from sniffers in their training.”
